The Healing Power of Presence
I was ill with some sort of virus recently, and remembered what Eckhart Tolle had to say about how he became even more present than usual when he was ill. So, I tried being present with my stomach ache, and noticed that my body really liked it. It relaxed with the result that I felt better!
I hadn’t noticed how much I was “holding on” to avoid feeling any discomfort, which only added to the discomfort. I also wondered if there was anything I could do, but “nothing” seemed to be the correct answer. Just taking a time out, doing nothing, feeling my body and being present. Very pleasant!
Eckhart Tolle’s Tips for Getting in Touch with Your Being
As Eckhart suggests:
“Can you feel the inner body? As I can right now, every cell is alive, there’s a presence that pervades the body, the entirety of the body, and it’s a beautiful feeling. And that is consciousness.”
- Take a conscious breath
- Without looking at them, feel your hands. Extend that feeling to the inner energy body of your arms, then your torso, legs, – feet and head.
- To bring you into the present moment, here is the 5 senses practice. Look around you and find:
- 5 things you can see
- 4 things you can hear
- 3 things you can touch
- 2 things you can smell
- 1 thing you can taste
